Residency: Mi Lab
Print residency, Mi Lab, Lake Kawaguchiko, Japan Oct -Nov 2023.
Selection of works produced during an artist-in-residence programme centred upon an intensive focus upon mokuhanga (water-based woodblock printing).
Responding to the specificity of the location, I developed a series of drawings, and minature assemblages, alongside experimental prints. Using found objects, fragments of botanical specimens, and observations, the works explore quiet accumulations of image and memory through layering, interruption, and partial reconstruction.
Experimenting with printing using graphite and sumi ink, embossing and mica application, as well as printing through layers of washi, the works emerged through a absorbed process of testing material possibilities. Their delicate surfaces and fractured compositions reflect a period of heightened stillness and personal transition, where moments, impressions, and memories became fragmented, suspended, and subtly reconfigured.
Residency; Sanctuary
Selection of works produced during a residency undertaken August 2025, ‘Sanctuary’ Poole Light house,Dorset, England.
Working in response to collection of withdrawn lithographic printed books. Collaging, drawing, editing and recomposing parts of images to create new dialogues between them. Searching for images which could be reworked to evoke a sense of quiet observation. Expansive breeze directed wheat fields, a mother gazing at her child, a stream, its movement revealed by the weeds bent and pulled by its current.
To see and be seen, 2025, Found lithographic print, redacted.
